Providence, Rhode Island U.S.A.

Hey there ANCHOR blog readers,
Next Friday, August 19th (7pm) at Sayles Hall over at Brown University, there will be an event that follows a unique format that leverages the power of social media and coalesces the entrepreneurial community in Providence. #Connect@Brown is a new way of sharing rich feedback from hundreds of people to a group of emerging social entrepreneurs. This is the culminating event of a week-long summer institute on social entrepreneurship for an elite group of semi-finalists from the prestigious Dell Social Innovation Competition (DSIC) run out of the RGK Center at UT-Austin. As the inaugural class of DSIC-Semi-Finalist Fellows, their innovative ventures range from building better homes in Haiti to designing smarter toys for children with chronic illnesses. The program includes 4 minute presentations from these fifteen entrepreneurs, including 3 minutes about their venture and 1 minute framing the key questions/challenges they need help addressing. The audience will give feedback via Twitter, which will be projected on a screen at the event and shared with the Fellows after the event. This advice will connect the most creative ideas of the future with the sharpest minds of the present, thereby forging a global social entrepreneurship community. They have a number of local and national luminaries coming to the event - including Ron Cordes, the founder and CEO of Impact Assets, Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, Senator Jack Reed, and US Representative David Cicilline. There will be a live webstream of the event and they will be joined by entrepreneur communities across the country, some of whom will be gathered at watch parties in San Francisco, Washington DC, and Mexico City. RSVP at the link below to attend in person - or would like to receive information to watch and participate online.
